Ghana to sign MOU with Côte d'Ivoire for exportation of gas - Akufo-Addo

Ghana through the Ministry of Energy and its partner Ghana Gas, is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the government of Côte d'Ivoire to facilitate the bidirectional transportation of gas between the two countries.

This will be achieved after the completion of the 20 inch 52 kilometre pipeline from Atuabo to Côte d'Ivoire

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo made this known when he commissioned a state-of-the-art Operational Office Complex for the Ghana National Gas Company at A B Bokazo in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

The office complex is expected to deliver first-class gas operations and support services for the country’s gas sector to ensure reliable and sustainable gas supply for power generation.

President Akufo-Addo said, Ghana Gas is to play a key role in the country's industrialization agenda. He also said government through Ghana Gas is constructing the country's onshore gas pipeline from Takoradi to Tema.

The project, the President said will be a game changer as it will enable industries along the coast to have access to reliable power source.

According to him, the Nzema enclave is receiving developmental attention to make it the hub of oil and gas.

On his part, the Chief Executive of Ghana National Gas Company, Dr. Ben Asante attributed the ability of the company to fully indigenize under three years of operation to the capability and hard work of Ghanaians in charge of the plant.

He noted that, focus on gas generation is going to serve as the pole for industrial development and as a catalyst for harnessing the country's natural resources.

He revealed that Ghana Gas Company will renovate the Half Assini Senior High School Girl's dormitory and also provide scholarships for brilliant but needy students in Nzemaland.

Speaking to the media after the opening of the Office Complex, the former Minister for Energy and Petroleum and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah thanked the President for the continuation of the project.

He disclosed that, the Ghana Gas Office Complex was started under the John Mahama-led administration.

He therefore, applauded the late President John Evans Atta Mills for initiating the construction process for the Gas Processing Plant at Atuabo and the subsequent completion by former President John Mahama.
